Really sorry to introduce myself to this forum in such embarrassing fashion, but Im trying to learn how to use certain aspects of max and/or jitter for a university project.

We dont have to use it, but having seen the capabilities of cyclops, it seems ideal for what Im trying to achieve.

Again, apologies, but what I need to know is how to incorporate cyclops into a new patcher. So far I have only managed to run the help file successfully.

I know theres something fundamental and of course simple that Im missing, but having scoured numerous PDFs Im still not sure where Im going wrong.

Please help me, Ill be eternally grateful!

Not sure what you're trying to do. You should at the very least explain what you are doing and whats not working, ideally you should also post a patch which demonstrates the issue.

In this case it sounds like you are having technical difficulties but there is no way to help you without some sort of context/explanation.
