enable 0/1 on jit.gl objects

I was wondering if there is any reason why I should not use enable 1/0 on jit.gl objects when running the patch. For example a jit.gl.slab or jit.gl.videoplane. Will this cause performance issues?
I think I ran some tests a year or two ago, which made me decide to disable jit.gl.* objects when they aren't being used. It may be pure compulsion on my part -- don't remember how much of a difference it made -- and things may have changed in the meantime....
