Frequency counter for sine waves, use the fiddle~ object?

Hi,

Is fiddle~ still the obvious choice for pitch tracking in Max/MSP? I
haven't used it in a few years.

I'm trying to get accurate frequency information for static sinewaves
being played into Max from an external hardware oscillator. Is there
maybe a more precise object for counting stable frequencies?
I recall fiddle~ being focussed on analysis of complex, changing
spectra.

Thanks!

You might try using xerox~ for this if you have a pretty clean signal.
Accuracy will depend on sampling rate.

I've had some good results using pitch~ but it also has crashed Max on a number of occasions (so perhaps the results aren't so good!). That said, when it worked it was right on.

There's also yin~ (?) tho I haven't tried it, and I think it costs. Still, if it's good I'm sure it's worth the (probably small) amount.
