im using max 4.5 and i was wondering how i would go about disabling a sub patch when i open a different one. for example when i press 1 sub patch one opens up and when i press 2 sub patch 2 opens up. when i press enter on either page it loads a sample hoever even if im in sub patch one and two is closed pressing enter loads both samples. is there a way to disable one sub patcher when im in the other one?

Have a look at the [active] object which reports the topmost patcher window.

yeah, [active] rocks, and also dont use "1" but "startwindow" to [dac~] ... which i think what you missed ...

One caveat to keep in mind about : If you add MSP objects to a patch or close a window that has DSP turned on via DSP will be turned on for all patches. Learned this the hard way the first time I was teaching with and had LOTS of stuff open and added an object.
