JAVA Runtime (Bug?)
Fairly annoying that not having this software update crashes max when you open a helpfile.
I was working on a patch, everything running fine and when I opened a helpfile (for [router] max instantly closed w/o save and an OSX popup told me I "need a SE 6 Java Runtime" to run max.
Also the update didn't fix anything.
It appears not all help files trigger this reaction. [router] does [route] doesn't. I haven't tested any others sinc it's nearly 2am and I'm already a little at losing my nights work.
Also max is crashing with some frequency when I move multiple patch chords from a series of outlets since I upgraded to Mavericks.
hmm... are the help files that crash using Jitter. AFAIK Jitter depended on Java until recently. Plain Max/MSP patches only load Java when required. Anyhow, upgrading to Mavericks also removes Java. It needs to be reinstalled. In my experiences Max does not recognize the Oracle-Java. I needed to install the Apple-Java (1.6) which can be found here:

Hey, thanks Jan;
You have deep appreciation, these are the kind of cpu related issues I have almost no patience for and wouldn't know where to begin trouble shooting. I installed the applet you recommended and the problem no longer persists.
Maybe it was the [matrixctlr]'s visual element that needed the applet. That's the only thing I see outstanding in the help file that isn't in my patch with [router].
Hey CARPENTERSKEYS,
just fyi: I finally spoke with support about that issue as it came up on the forum already a few times. They logged a ticket for a future support of Oracle Java, but they can't give any dates when it will be done. Until then we'll have to spread the word here :)
cheers!
Awesome, thanks again for your help.
I'll grab my fork and torch and take to the streets. The people must know about the Oracle!
