this might not be max specific, but it is happening to me with max. twice
lately, max (4.6.2) has not been able to start (os 10.4.8): it gets stuck
on initializing midi, and the rotating rainbow circle goes into action. i
have to force quit. i check that midi is not working by using the audio
midi utility, and it cannot load midi information. i have three soundcards
(digi mix/888, delta 1010, delta 66, usually with the 1010 active).
rebooting the computer fixes things.
can anyone please suggest what might be going wrong.
i forgot to mention, my computer is a quicksilver mirror drive (i.e., 3
1/2 years old), dual 1.42 GHz PPC, 2MB L3, 1 GB DDR. and when i reboot, it
have to hard restart the computer (when the midi freezes).

On a Mac this ment there is an unresolved alias to a non connected
Look for aliases in your search path. If you wait long enough it will
start by the way, but this might need some minutes. Its an old bug of OS
X (its a bug even if Peter and Apple think its a feature…)
