I'm using phasor~ to play back play~/wave~/index~. I change the frequency of the phasor~ and need it to start it's ramp at 0. I want the phasor~ to output one ramp when a signal click is received so that instead of looping, the audio is only played once. Would I have to program my own phasor external or is there an msp technique to accomplish this? I have no experience with making my own externals so I'm a bit weary of doing that.

After thinking about it I realize that what I am actually looking for is a click trigger line~ object. I guess zigzag~ is the way to go for this? Trigger with click a 0. to 1. ramp and vary the speed to replace changing the frequency. I'll give this a shot.

It sounds like you've been kind of operating a bit on the assumption that there's some single object for any arbitrary task - it's probably not a good long-term strategy when you think about patching.

thanks patrick, shot~ seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

to greg: i wasn't looking for a single magic object. if it took 5 or even 15 i would use them if it got the results i need. zigzag~ just happened to have what i needed, but it had a design flaw which prevented me from using it. i attempted a work around using sah~ and a few other objects and once i get it working i'll replace shot~.

this sort of works, but I don't know how to reset the phasor~ to 0, so you get parts-of-ramps. Is there an easy way other than some more edge~ logic, or turning the audio off and then on?
