One of the reasons I opted for the MOTU instead of the RME is that it has DC coupled outputs so I can control my eurorack modular with my Max patches through the MOTU outputs. But when measuring the voltage output from the MOTU, it only reaches 2.35 v (and the standard for the modular harware is 5 v, of course)

Is that just the limitations and I have to gain the voltage externally or am I doing something wrong in Max.

My patch is really simple. I get MIDI in skale the contoller value to 0. - 5. and output it to "dac~ 7" and hook a mono cable from output 7 to my modular.

There is no fixed correlation between signal amplitude in Max and what you get in terms of voltage output of the MOTU - in other words an amplitude of 1.0 from Max does not mean you should expect 1v at the MOTU output and so on). It should theoretically be possible to get 5 volts assuming the outputs are set to at or near maximum in the unit and its software controls,, however depending on the output design stage, the MOTU may not 'appreciate' having one side of the balanced output effectively short circuited, which is what a mono cable will be doing. (perhaps Try a TRS in the MOTU with the R (ring) disconnected - insert (Y) cables may work as well). You will need to calibrate the output and scale it appropriately for the Eurorack.

To that end, a search on here for Analog Voltage Control or similar may help , - a site like muffwigglers or silent way may contain useful information to you as well
