I recently posted this same issue on the Ableton forums but I haven't gotten a response, so I figured I would try here as well.

I'm building a Max For Live Instrument - all of the UI components have scripting names, annotations, long names, short names, etc...

Most of these UI objects function as expected, but I'm getting some strange behavior from a few of them.

I've noticed that any new parameter which I add has its "Long Name" changed once the patch is reloaded.

For example, I create a live.gain~ object and give it the scripting name: "Oscillator 2 Volume" and enable "Link to Scripting Name".

As soon as I reload the patch, the Scripting Name is the same, but the Long Name is "Envelope Release[4]"

I should note that I have 3 bpatchers which contain the parameters "Envelope Release" [1], [2], etc...

If I delete the offending object and add a new one, i.e. a live.dial, the same thing happens...renamed "Envelope Release[4]" on reload

Right now, the instrument has about 45 automated parameters - is there some kind of limit on this number?

In the end if I have to remove some parameters that's not a huge deal...but I'd be really curious to get some insight into this bizarre behavior.

I tried removing a couple of parameters to see if it was related to some kind of limit, but that didn't help.

Then I removed the bpatchers containing the other "Envelope Release" parameters, and the problem seemed to go away.

So I guess the question is why are seemingly random parameters being renamed to match those within the bpatchers...

I can unwrap the bpatchers without too much trouble - but that's hardly a solution.
