Question on using Max with computer keyboard as MIDI

Aug 25 2012 | 1:37 am

i am new and i have been searching whether it is posible to use a laptop keyboard as midi directly.
it seems this is possible but i am not sure how this works
i have downloaded a working patch from an external source and i have found somebody’s patch that uses midi keyboard directly without a midi device and pasted onto the original patch. however, i still cannot make sound. if someone could tell me the correct connections or any errors it owuld be great.

By "midi directly" do you mean to a plugin? Do you mean out of your computer to control a physical MIDI device?

Either way if you want to use the laptop/computer keyboard you need to use the [key] and possibly [keyup] objects, as well as some [makenote] and then [midiout] or [vst~] if you want to use a plugin. I must warn you that vst~ is a horrible unintuitive object with a not especially helpful help file.

i mean to use my computer keyboard instead of an actual midi/piano/controller as a midi input. ive seen people do it becuase they do not have the midi devices. just using the computer keyboard, as if its a midi device. i also did not quite understand th rest of all the stuff you said (i bought the program yesterday)
