Really annoying PC hardware adventures (old amd vs old intel)

Hi,

I've been working on a patch for an installation that I thought I'd run on a spare PC that someone gave I had lying around. Its an amp athlon 1800+ with an asus MB with 1gig o ram. My v5 patch isn't terribly CPU intensive so I thought it would be fine as the patch works great on an 2.4 PIV system. For some reason opening the patch crashed the AMD system even after a clean install of XP as well as a full update to sp3 but my lowely sp1 PIV rocks it up as does my 1.4 centrino laptop. The patch uses a couple externals like gigaverb~ and cppan~. Does anyone know why the dumb AMD system doesn't seem to want to play nice?

Thanks

B

mybe your ram is old and forgetful.
try running a memory test or some other intensive process.http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

check the event viewer , see if there is something fishy.

I tried memtest - memory was ok and did a clean install of xp so no strange processes

any other ideas?
