Removing old Max/MSP versions (Windows)

This is probably a tedious question but I've not found anything on the list that really answered the question:

I don't really need Max/MSP 4.5 on my Windows boxes, having finally gotten 4.6.3 installed everywhere. Can I simply drop the 4.5 folder into the Recycle Bin and empty it, or are there other things that need to be done?

I'm not terribly worried if there is a kB or so of legacy data lying fallow on my disks. I would like to free up the 80MB or whatever it is Max/MSP/Jitter need. Removing applications seems to be a bit of a black art on Windows and doing it wrong is reputed to cause more serious problems. As it is, opening certain MaxMSP 4.5 folders has a knack of crashing Windows Explorer(!?).

Thanks -- Peter

I would have uninstalled 4.5 first. I don't know what folders are shared, which would then cause problems with uninstalling one version and not the other.

If it were me, I'd uninstall both versions to be safe then reinstall 4.6.

This is what I do:

Manually elete the folders you find from the installs. They're aliased in your Start > Programs menu.

Then make sure to delete:

C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataCycling '74

Then, to be extra safe, do a Windows search for Cycling to make sure nothing's left over.

Then run the uninstaller.

Then reinstall 4.6.

(BTW, I've installed and reinstalled 4.5 several times. I've never had an Explorer problem)
