i'm obsessed with the sound of reverse delays at the moment, so i found this one on the forum and modified it a bit, but can't seem to keep it from clicking. Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

is this Tim Lloyd's patch? or Andrew B's? can't remember, seen it before, though. nice one. i bet Tim or Andrew might have a better solution to it.

but one possible solution, take grooveduck (Max5/examples/sequencing-looping/audio-rate-sequencing-looping/lib/grooveduck.maxpat), and apply it to the read/write heads of your patch:

OP that is my patch, and I never did get it to work! Haha

i have a alesis midiverb 4 in my studio. love the thing, it has a really nice reverse delay on it too, which you can edit the parameters etc.

would be interested in looking at these patches. a reverse delay is always one of those interesting effects that wont die out, but only to be used at good moments, not every part of a track :D

Thanks for the help everyone, but i still get a bit of the clicking going on, just not as severe. i would love to do those long reverse delays like those heard on early Black Sabbath records or dare i say Beatles better period...oh psychedelia

I don't know anything that does the reverse thing better than an Eventide Orville or H8000, fwiw.

aye, i know the h7000, had it at one of the studios i used to work at. really nice. would love one.

Grab yourself a copy of Augustus Loop (VST) and use that either stand-alone or inside your patch - really amazing capabilities and very useful for tape-style delay and looping (and reverse) with really long capture times.

Ahhh........but wouldn't it be nice to work out how to do it well in Max? I wonder how the Eventide does it.......it will have had to overcome the exact same playhead/recordhead x-ing issues as one encounters in the Max universe. So it is possible.

The Beatles-type reverse delays are not quite the same, as they would have simply been a recording played backwards on the reel-to-reel........doesn't have the same issues because it's not "real-time" delay.......unless I'm mistaken.

I've had a tiny bit too much Mauritian rum to actually concentrate properly tonight, but I will make plans to experiment with this tomorrow!

A very cool patch! Would sound super in stereo. The original clicked for me too. Noob4Life's ducking was a definite improvement click wise.

The Eventides are really smart about when they start a reverse window. They listen to the incoming audio and flip things based on the input phrasing.

I would have thought stutter~ was a good object object for this, being basically a recirculating delay line - just use an inverted phasor in the right inlet.

I'm sure there's fun to be had with multiple play-heads, but it's escaping me thus far. The repeat message is worth a play, though.

It seems fairly click-free too, though I'm sure you could use a windowed pair to improve things, like the pitch-stutter example from CNMAT,
