[sharing is fun] Euclidean algorithmic midi rhythm generator

Apr 03 2009 | 10:07 pm

After stumbling upon
I read the paper and decided that this was a good excuse to learn how to use js to script together some max magic. At some point soon I’ll update my blog with details of what I learnt.

stupidly long blog post explaining stuff now up for those who care

Interesting. I’ll have to check out your paper, the post, your blog, and your code in some more detail when I’ve got more time on my hands.

One quick note: why must you limit our number boxes. A max tempo of 5000 allows for some much more fun (in my opinion….this stuff seems particular interesting to me for generating patterned granular textures). After 5000 things start to suck (at least on my computer (current max scheduler settings and/or internal MIDI issues I guess).

This is really cool. I’m going to read the paper/blog soon (skimmed parts tonight), but for now I’m just having a great time recreating the greatest works of Conlon Nancarrow.

Now a Euclidian sequencer, that would be neat…

This thing is super fun! Reminds me of the Spiral Reaktor ensemble- but made in max so its way more customizable for a simpleton like myself – I just added some MIDI in and some Ksliders. Been laboring over this song for about a week now and this totally got me out of a rut. Big thanks!

thanks for the positive feedback, just to clarify that paper wasn’t by me, i wish it was, it could count towards my thesis!

i limited the tempo box because my midi conks out at 200 bpm, i have considered euclidean granular texture tho, maybe i’ll sort that later

this is very pretty to look at. an inspiration to learn js.

This thing is soooooooo much fun. You are a legend and cheers for sharing it. My head starts to clog up with the ideas for new songs

Thanks again

And I just noticed you’re in Belfast . Not long moved out of Belfast myself. Miss the place massively and I must say I’m seriously jealous of anyone that gets to work in the SARC. What an amazing building

cheers for the big ups, SARC is awesome. where abouts in belfast where you ?

Sounds like its gonna get better and better. Keep me informed.
I lived on University Ave. for a couple of years and then up on St Judes Ave. off the Ormeau Rd. What about you? Are you a Belfastian?

Apr 05 2009 | 12:04 am

nah from birmingham, doing a phd there tho, live off lisburn rd.

I’m from Dublin. Lived up there for about 4 years. Living in Bristol now doing a degree in all this business. How long you been in Belfast and how are you finding it? I really liked it but found it got pretty small pretty damn quickly. Quite happy to be somewhere where there’s a little more going on but as I said still miss the place. Lisburn Rd is a nice enough part of town

yeah u’r right it does get small pretty quick, been here just over 2 years, nice enough but i think u’ve got a better deal in dublin, more going on and a better atmosphere
