I’m looking for an experienced Max/Msp writer to put together a simple patch for me.
Paid of course!
Please let me know if you can help.
give us a little description
I need a max/msp program that can take in the sound from an electric
guitar and turn it into a light show.
I would like to be able to control the out put effect from max/msp so
it is not a simple on off switch to the lights- but acutally causes
dimming of the lights with different pitches from the strings.
This means i would like to be sending out 6 channels of information to
a midi lighting desk- exact model to be confirmed- any suggestions
I have been advised so far that It could be done with fiddle objects
and then pitch tracking and envelope following to create midi data.
If anyone thinks they can do this please let me know or if you need
more info I’m only too happy to provide it.
If you feel confident please send me a quote too. Please keep in mind
i’m on a very strict budget!

Does this mean you want to send information of each string? That would
require f.e. a Roland GR system, which pulls out already the information
as Midi. The main work is the artistic one in this case: define what
should control what. This requires knowledge on your side about lights
and sound… (Elsewise its not your work, but the work of the artist you
hire for doing it)
Yes, Max/MSP is ideal for that sort of work…
One main information is still missing, where do you live, where should
the project be realized? Its something which needs being developed in
place, because such a patch has to be tested with your specific setup…
(Guitar/DMX controler and alike)
Thanks for your input- unfortunately a midi guitar system is out of the question this time.
I would like to be able to map input so it can:
* link one pitch range with one light (five lights in total)
* have the output of that light relate to the frequency of each pitch
range ( so for example if a string is played with less force the
corresponding lights will be dimmer?)
* be able to have some control in real time over these pitch/
frequency ranges to exact the effect
I have found some DMX led lights that can produce a range of colours per unit. I like the idea of being able to incorporate these. would it be possible to say have a pitch range to cover a piece of the spectrum?
I accept your comments on the constitution of artistry- lets not forget Max/msp was made by someone else. I am trying to find the most effective way through learing what i need to do rather that learning everything from scratch!
