smpte, genlock, external video recording

April 9, 2013 | 6:41 am

I will have a patch that get and records data from sensors and this will be used during a dance performance.
This performance will be recorded by 2 cameras.

Is there a way to sync the video and the data recordings ?
I see that I could generated a SMPTE signal, but I’m not sure how this could be connected to the cameras….

Anybody with experience on that ?

If you can generate a smpte signal, it’s like an audio signal, you have just to connect this signal to the corresponding input of the camera (tc in) and put the camera in external sync

and is a time code input the same thing as genlock ?

no genlock is a video signal which allow to synchronise multiple devices but without time information. it is just like a click on wich each device can be synchronise. Time code contains a time information which is different for eac frame.
