Soundflower broke Skype sounds
Hello, I used Soundflower (1.5.1) to redirect iTunes' music into the Skype (2.8.0.851) call.
It worked, however after I reverted the settings for audio input/output, it seems that I don't hear any of the sounds that Skype makes (ringing, incoming and sending messages etc) except when I play them in the Alerts preferences.
But I hear audio from the calls.
So it just seems broken, what can I do ?
I already relaunched it twice.
Well thanks everyone for your help...
I'm sorry to hear that you are having difficulty with Soundflower. The Soundflower project is a free, open source utility. Although we are happy to offer suggestions where we can, it isn't officially supported like our other paid software packages.
If you are having setup problems, the Soundflower download includes a readme that describes a simple setup which you may find useful.
I encourage you to check out the Google Code pages where the Soundflower source is maintained and updated:
Here you will find links to downloads, version information/change logs, project feeds, the SoundflowerDev Google Group, and more. Please feel free to get involved with the project!
Soundflower is one of several utilities like this currently available. Please check out these other internal audio routing projects:
Also, you may want to look into taking advantage of Mac OS X's ability to create aggregate devices out of multiple audio devices, which you can read more about here:
If you are having difficulty removing Soundflower, open up a terminal and type:
ls /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext
if you see--
ls: /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext: No such file or directory
then soundflower is not on the system! You may need to restart just to make sure all applications do not still think it is loaded.
but if you see--
Contents
then soundflower is still installed.
Please type:
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext
[ you will have to enter your admin password ]
sometimes the unloading may fail and you need to do the command again one or two times [ type uparrow, return ]
once the unload is successful, then you can blow away soundflower by typing:
sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext
Once again, you will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
I don't think it's very cool to complain that people didn't help you on a public forum - maybe no-one knew the answer....
To be clear, also, this is not c74 support, this is a forum for members of the public (sometimes the c74 team also) to volunteer their time to help others. Soundflower is not longer developed by c74 - it has it's own google code page (that names the current developers) - three clicks away from this page. Skype also has routes for support.
Whatever - the most likely explanation is that you have set the audio device for ringing left on soundflower (which is separate from that for the audio of calls).
To change this:
Go to preferences
Choose Audio
Select the correct driver next to the word "Ringing"
Otherwise, I have no idea what this could be. When I change the ringing sound driver I still hear the notification sounds when I preview them in Skype, which sound the same as your situation.
Hopefully this will help
Alex
