Speakers recommendations for an installation?

Feb 06 2010 | 12:53 am

I am putting together an installation and need 8 decent speakers. They don’t need to be anything crazy. They will just be aligned in a row each playing a different part of a classical piece. Does anyone have any experience with this or can you recommend a model that is aesthetic, good quality and affordable? I guess I’m looking to buy 8 of them, so that I have them for future work as well.

in all honesty it does depend how much you would like to spend. although i gather since there is going to be 8 of them, its best to keep costs down.

one such website sells their own brand of monitors, they are a knock off of the famous yamaha NS-10. check out
they are cheap, well built and sound decent. but these are passive, they are not active speakers, they need a amp to power them.

but, you can go for something else, obviously.
i would have a check of the m-audio range of monitors. they are durable, affordable, plus the cones are made out of kevlar [bullet proof], which makes them tough. plus if you ever getting in a fire fight you can probably strap them to your front and use them as a vest :)
they sound good too.

other than those 2, there are loads of different brands, but they do change on price, even if they are the same wattage etc.
but have a check on and have a look around, check prices and that.

hope this helps you…

thanks for the tip. I guess I’d be looking at some home hi-fi speakers like JBLs or something similar. Preferably something sturdy, with a front grill so that they don’t get damaged by kids, dogs or snakes.

d&b C6
not affordable, but definitely a must for serious installations
