I've got the message soc sound going to my jit.qt.movie object. I made the spigot~ sound object. The video and sound play before I hit the soc sound message. When I hit the soc sound message the sound goes off. I've had this problem before and it just started working after around 10 minutes but this time it really isn't working. Any ideas? The audio file is 16 bit 44100 sample rate. And the video is in apple intermediate codec.

Try it with a very short video (maybe blading.mov as its in the Max search path) and see what happens. When you hit soc the audio is stripped from the mov and rendered out as an aiff with a supporting .xml file. This doesn't happen instantly and if it's a long movie it takes a while, so try with a short one. This only happens the first time you play the movie and it should be instant after...HOWEVER, if you open another patch that uses the same movie it will do all this again with the default caching options!
