When I use the string "Text" in umenu, the object will show a 

keyboard shortcut (alt-command N) on the right. Somehow Max seems to 

confuse the umenu entry with its own menu (File->New->Text).

the alt+command + N is one of my shortcut system (which modify the 

application shortcuts). I've seen that strange behavior in the umenu, 

and I've really no idea why this happens... But anyway, it's

Many people have been disappointed that only a subset of the meta- 
characters handled by Mac OS are supported by umenu. You seem to have  
stumbled upon both of them by accident.

I don't know of a workaround other than avoiding these characters,
