Totally clueless!!!!!!!

Hi,

I just downloaded maxmsp and I cannot figure it out. I obviously want to create and manipulate sound but how do I do it in this program. I was using Audiomulch which has a pretty simple GUI and was very easy to use but now I am using OS X and Audiomulch is not available. I do not use a midi keyboard. Do I absolutely need one to use max? All I have is my computer. Are there signal generators in maxmsp that I can use?

TIA!

hey welcome!

you sound like me when i first started. Audiomulch is cool isnt it? but in
max you have the abilaty to do anything you want. just keep in mind that its
somthing you have to work tward. right off the bat you really need to read
the max tutorials to understand how to think about max. but don't just do
that cause thats kinda boring :( look up max patches, google max stuff, read
articles, take time to explore the entire max community. there are some
tutorials about making synths out there. just don't give up before you've
done the tutorials!!! then when your done with those come back and start
asking really hard questions :)

in max/msp you can do just about anything from amking a calculator to making
somthing to check your e-mail. i've seen simple video games made with it.
but mostly you can make some of the coolest music ever with it. i'm not gona
lie, its complicated. but i think most people will be able to get a really
firm grasp of max if they stick to it :)

also ive never had a midikeyboard in my life :) you can use the kslider
object to get around the use of a keybord in the tutorials for the most part
(though this wont teach you about routing midi signals from devices). at
least i did

Thanks you two! I will try your suggestions and hopefully will make it back with some more advance issues to talk about.
