transferring audio between two macs

Hi all,

I would like to have two macs running Abletons live synced.
This I managed to work via the midi session network .
Now I'm wondering if I can send audio to the other mac in realtime so the other mac can process the audio ?
I mean, 1 audio track in Ableton is sending the audio to the second mac so to be processed by say a reverb ?

Is this possible?

sorry if i'm in the wrong forum for this post.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Is possible.... but not reliable or accurate... Have to consider the latency of Network and other factors.
I send a patch to you to try.

"if I can send audio to the other mac"

if you mean over a network, wirelessly, i wouldn't recommend it as it can be a bit unreliable but other than the above example, you could also take a look at [mxj net.maxhole] for networking audio(or anything), too...
but you can definitely send audio from one computer to the other using audio outputs and inputs connected with audio cables(for example, i have an old MOTU Ultralite, and a new one... i can hook up one to an older mac i have, and the other to the new one, then using the input of one, connect the output of the other to it... then all you have to do is work ableton)...
it should actually be pretty easy, using a regular audio-cable connection(you certainly don't need an Audio I/O to do it either, you could, if you really wanted, take the headphone out of one comp and connect it to the mic in on another... etc. but with a dedicated Audio I/O box like the Ultralite, you can route(within Ableton) certain tracks to certain outputs to get a separation of aux sends from main outs...)

hope that all makes sense and helps.
