turning notein and ctlin off

I'm trying to turn off "notein" and "ctlin". The problem is this: when I try to put a toggle in between notein and the number box and turn it off, an input from my MIDI device will turn it on - so like it's not even there.

I'm trying to control part of my patch with my MIDI keyboard, then another part, without disturbing the first part.

Just wondering if there was a way to have an independent switch that won't get in the way here.
