Tough question about interface
I don't know where to ask this question.
So start here.
(on side note - Presonus Studio 26c does not have this problem)
Situation:
I have an Intel Mac - 2017
and I have an M1 Mac 2021
I connect to Tascam 4x4HR using Usb-c to power the Tascam
When I connect Intel Mac 2017 to Tascam everything works fine. In fact for years I never have a problem. Even now.
I haven't really used Tascam with M1 Mac in past few years...
Now I plug the 2021 M1 Mac to Tascam and it goes nuts. I seems like the power coming from M1 is not correct.
Sometimes I plug computer 2021 into Tascam and speakers start popping- some sort of electrical overload??
I can change ports. Ports should all be the same as far as outputting voltage goes.
When not popping. Seems normal-->
If I plug in my electric upright bass (which has a battery) to the 1/4 inch jack - that works. But sometimes no signal at Tascam. If I plug in mics XLR that need phantom power--> was working but then no. Nothing.
Can't ask Apple about this.
Can't ask Tascam about this.
Here is the know most community.
Head tilted sideways - what is different between Intel Mac and M1 Mac that would cause interface problems with Tascam ONLY?
I would as first power it up using external power supply,
then check if firmware is up to date or up to late ...

Firmware update no go.
2021 M1 - Same problem. Popping speakers. No input at all.
Connect 2017 Mac - perfect.
Have to find DC12v and report back.
But this is odd that M1 Mac...
Ok. Power adapter works with M1
Upon further research the difference between Intel Mac and M series seem to wattage.

Another improvement , isn't it ?
It is a joke, one can't even power up a single usb audio interface...
Yeah doesn't make sense. They could easily build in a switch that allows higher power output
with message saying "may consume more battery"
but apple doesn't put much consideration into folks using devices outside their precious ecosystem
the information from that screenshot that USB 3.1 gen 2 type C would deliver 4.5 watts maximum is aleady wrong, it is 15 watts.
back in the days USB 1 had officially only 0.5 watts, but apple desktops delivered more like 3 watts and could easily handle small HDs if put into eco mode.
that many devices do not work correctly is usually a fault of these devices, as they do not properly announce to the host what they want.
The only other observation that I made is the most current firmware update is 2022 for Tascam
Even though supported devices say Apple Sequoia which is 2024
Maybe that
