Hi everyone,

There are extensive drum samples in Ableton Live. I would like to trigger hundreds of samples from a generative rhythm generator written in Max. I would like to know what would be the best approach to connect both softwares... would you use Midi? is there any other way? would you write a MaxForLive rhythm generator?

I'm quite new to Ableton/MaxForLive but i have long experience in Max...

Thank you for any ideas!

Best,

j

Max for Live, by far.

The thing is that Max doesn't really play too well with other DAW's, not without the help from some external tools such as virtual MIDI ports. Theoretically you could use RNBO to build yourself a VST and use that, but RNBO is basically a subset of Max, it's not exactly the same.

Max for Live then is essentially the Max environment fully embedded in Live, things can't get any closer between Max and a DAW. While you may need to apply some minor changes to your patch it should pretty much work as-is.

Thank you so much for your answer!

Then how can I trigger Ableton's samples from a Max for Live device? Sorry for my complete ignorance!

Any example i could find?

Thanks again!!

My guess is that the device should send Midi events to an Ableton sampler (pad)... is that correct? or are there other types of communications between devices?

Using the LOM ?

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.
