I'm currently using a Line 6 Toneport GX so i can record guitar tracks in Garageband. Is it possible to use my guitar tone from Guitar Rig( in Garageband) with effects in Max 5 (e.g. a stuttering effect) and if it is, how would I go about that? Again, sorry if I seem like a total newbie. Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe you could route the audio out of Garage Band into Max? That should be fairly easy to do using sound flower:
