will this work with Ultraleap  Stereo IR 170 ?

Not tested, but it should work, as the SDK is the same for all Ultraleap devices.

Please let me know how it works if you have the opportunity to test it :-)

Hello @Matthieu. Hi everybody. First of all, I wish you a wonderful 2025! I've been seriously ill during the last half year so my apologies for the radio silence. I'm getting better and back on track with things and was wondering whether it would be possible to run your external on Intel, Catalina 10.15.7. Ultraleap V5.20.0 recognises the controller and tracks it, despite the fact that it actually should be doing this exclusively under OS 11...

Mathieu Chamagne's icon

Hey JB

glad to read you're back on tracks :-)

I very surprised that you managed to get something coming out of Gemini in macOs 10.15.7...
I tested it on a 2009 MacMini, and despite the fact that I could install Gemini driver, tracking didn't work.
I had to install macOs 11 (thanks to Open Core Legacy ;-) on this computer to make it work.

About our external, I think it should be working (can't see any reason why it wouldn't !)
Please give it a try and let us know :-)

JBBollen's icon

@Mathieu. Thanks. Well, when I say Ultraleap V5.20.0 recognises and tracks under Catalina 10.15.7, I mean to add that it stops right there. Since also the legacy 2.3.1 stopped working after installing Gemini, I had to uninstall the latter since I need access to the older driver to perform older works. It would have been great to have both drivers on the same device... but unfortunately, that does not seem possible.

Rodrigo's icon

I had it complain on one of my computers at one point, but then I deleted it and installed it via the Package Manager and it worked fine after that. So worth giving that a spin.

JBBollen's icon

Rodrigo, do you now have both drivers installed under Catalina 10.15.7? Functional?

Rodrigo's icon

I've only been able to get it to work with Gemini. Hyperion hangs (on Mac) as I believe the license server isn't operational or something like that.

Big bummer as Hyperion is supposed to have better tracking when holding objects (which is huge for me with drum sticks).

JBBollen's icon

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm not upgrading my OS on the laptops that I'm performing with. If it's a winning team, I refuse to risk snapped backbones. The only thing I've done is going to Sonoma on my M1, after endless checking with colleagues whether they encountered any issues.

JBBollen's icon

What I would like though, is being able to run LEAP V1 and V2 on the same laptop, so I do not have to schlep 2 computers around. Having said that, the second laptop is good as an emergency backup.

Rodrigo's icon

As far as I know, you can happily run both v1 and v2 ones at the same time (and multiples of each) with Gemini.

EDIT: The problem below is resolved through many trial and errors of installing and deleting the tracking-software-macos-intel-5.20.0.

Dear all, On my Intel, I installed tracking-software-macos-intel-5.20.0 under Big Sur (11.7.10). I downloaded Ultraleap 1.0.0 via package manager. It worked once, but now I consistently get the following errors in the Max console:

ultraleap: unable to load object bundle executable

But also - and this is rather odd:

2025-08-10 16:22:45.868 Max[1192:14521] Error loading /Users/jbbollen/Documents/Max 8/Max for Live Devices/jbleep 2023 LISTEN Project/externals/ultraleap.mxo/Contents/MacOS/ultraleap: dlopen(/Users/jbbollen/Documents/Max 8/Max for Live Devices/jbleep 2023 LISTEN Project/externals/ultraleap.mxo/Contents/MacOS/ultraleap, 262): Library not loaded: @rpath/libLeapC.5.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/jbbollen/Documents/Max 8/Max for Live Devices/jbleep 2023 LISTEN Project/externals/ultraleap.mxo/Contents/MacOS/ultraleap
Reason: image not found

"LISTEN" is one of my maxforlive devices that uses the Ultraleap external, but obviously even the Ultraleap Help File in Max is now referenced from that LISTEN m4l...
Anyway, I can not get the controller to work, except in the Ultraleap Control Panel app.

Anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hi JB

FWIT : if you freeze a M4L device that contains Ultraleap external : it won't work properly because the support folder is not included in the device, resulting in error Library not loaded: @rpath/libLeapC.5.dylib

In your case : no idea why Max preferred to load the external from your LISTEN m4l instead of the one in the package :-s

Ooh interesting. They (ultraleap) hadn't updated the mac version in ages...

mattyo's icon

Yes, but is it compatible with any existing Max objects? I thin kthe last one was Gemini, and a name change makes me suspicious....

Rodrigo's icon

As far as I know the current ones work with hyperion (on Windows), so I imagine so? There's been a working hyperion version on windows for years now, they just left the mac version stuck on a buggy 6.0.

JBBollen's icon

@ MATTYO & RODRIGO: Yep, always tricky to install a new version on an otherwise (finally!) properly functioning system... When oh when am I going to take the risk? In-between gigs sometime, I guess. This is why I started to install everything on a mirror Mac mini M1 system.

mattyo's icon

Let us know how it goes! Happy to let someone else be the guinea pig....

I managed to install Hyperion on windows when it was first released.

But looks like it requires an online authorization, and now their server is down...
When trying to install on Mac (M2), console say something about an authorization server unreachable :-(
(and it doesn't work)

FWIW : on windows, Hyperion seems to work fine with Ultraleap Max external.

Rodrigo's icon

Ah that's a shame. I remember something like that being similar for 6.0, but assumed that with an update a few weeks ago it would be working.

Mathieu Chamagne's icon

oups, sorry, I didn't noticed that a new versions (6.2) has been released !
(that's a very good news, I really started to believe that Ultraleap was dead ☠️)

I'll give it a try ASAP and let you know.

Mathieu Chamagne's icon

...Just installed Hyperion 6.2 on my Mac silicon :
Everything works fine 😁
Tracking is really improved,
+ supports holding an object in your hand

bonus : finally it seems to work with leap motion controller v1
(if I remember correctly, the first v6 didn't support v1 controller..)

hurray !

Rodrigo's icon

Amazing!

I need to experiment with this more now as it was such a bummer it tracked hands holding drum sticks so poorly before.

And also great that it's backwards compatible too.

Did you just install "on top" of gemini or did you uninstall first? I remember it being fickle before about that.

mattyo's icon

Delighted to hear it!! I found the previous iteration rather poor -- got right & left hands confused, lost fingers, etc. Looking forward to checking it out.

Just installed over Gemini, no need to reboot.

I'm now running some tests to check if the multi-devices support has been improved.
(there was a known bug with Gemini on Mac : random disconnection with multiple devices connected to the same computer...)

🤞

JBBollen's icon

Thnx, MATHIEU. I think you're right. Trackings feels improved. Still early days. If I find anything in particular, I will report 🙏

Working great for me so far!
