Updating Max (For Live)
Do we need to download the full Package for each update? Or is there a smaller/simpler way to update Max with each release? It's not that it's that large of a file, however I was wondering if there is another method available.
No, there's not. Traditionally, there was no problem with that, since the installer was relatively small, but nowadays, with Max 7 and 32/64 bit versions, due to it's size, an updater makes some sense...
Thanks for answering my question!
Has there been any changes in updating Max for live, after Ableton bought Cycling and integrated Max closer in Live for Live 10? I'm getting fatal errors and Ableton Live crashes when I try to use GL3 in the latest Ableton build while opening basic M4L devices like the envelope follower. Ableton's latest build doesn't use the updated version of Max (as of writing 8.1.5), but rather 8.1.3. GL3 is not supported in this version.
Should I wait for Ableton to update this, or force Ableton to use my standalone Max version?
I make it a general practice to always link Ableton Live to the version of standalone Max that's running on my machine.
That does the trick! Thanks a lot, Gregory.
For those like me who don't own the standalone but can't wait to have Max 8.1.5, I just downloaded it from the Cycling website and substituted it for the 8.1.3 copy in Ableton Live 10 Suite/Contents/App-Resources/Max/. It feels too easy, but Live doesn't seem to know the difference. Everything works so far and it doesn't show that green "trial version" banner. If it doesn't work for you, I figure the worst-case scenario is you'd have to reinstall Live Suite, but someone please correct me if there are risks that I'm overlooking.
Instead of copying it in, I strongly recommend using the Live preference for this, under Preferences->File/Folder, you can set the Max application location.
You are awesome ben and shawn, thank you!
