USB game controller question
A number of previous Max/MSP/Jitter workshop
people have brought either their Xbox controllers
(which need an OSX driver, but work fine after
that) or something more humble like the Logitech
controller:
I picked mine up at a Goodwill store for 5
bucks. It's worked great, and it's now what I more
or less recommend... particularly since I think it's
the one that Nick Collins hacks in his hacking book.
Thanks for the replies guys - does the logitech have any known driver issues and does it always work with the hi object etc?
Cheers
I've had students use lots of different kinds of game controllers,
there were never any issues with the hi object. The only issue was me
taking a night to make a diagnostic patch (to grab the different
numbers coming out of the various controllers), and then finding the
nifty HI Tester that came with Max 5, and feeling like a tool.
here's a list of the various controllers my students used this past
quarter, none posed a problem:
Destroyer Tiltpad
Logitech Dual Action
Gravis Game Pad Pro
Logitech Attack 3
Logitech Precision
Saitek P990 Dual ANalog
Saitek Rumble Force

Thanks Sam - do said devices work with both Macs and PCs?
I never had an issue using any of them with Mac OS--somebody else
might know more about any driver issues with PCs...
