Using a mouse patch with Ableton
Hi all, I've hit a bit of a snag with my plan but I best describe it to you all first so you have an idea of what I'm trying to do.
Basically, for my bands live sets i have been using a max patch to change and trigger samples with a box we made from Maplins (UK version of radio shack) which has been made from a 3 button USB mouse. The left middle and Right click has been rewired into stomp box switches and starts stops and changes the samples and it has worked great until now.
Our setup has changed and we dont have a drummer now so instead of moping we have spent ages designing live drums and have come up with a new massive sound. And with this change we have also changed software - Ableton. Now my problem is that i need to build a max patch which i can use with Ableton to trigger and change the samples and i am a little stuck on what to do. I had the idea that i could tell max that the mouse click can trigger a certain MIDI note which can be mapped in ableton with the midi map.
Trouble is im not sure how to go about exporting something that will allow me to do that. Will Pluggo help? Or am I going the complete wrong way about this.
To recap - Magic stomp box (ie left/right/middle click) - through max patch telling ableton to change samples.
Any help or inspiration or even a vague point in the right direction would be a massive help.
Thanks, FGT
Well the [hi] object should read your mouse clicks into max, have a look at the help file and it will explain everything if you're not already up to speed.
As for triggering samples, could you just have each mouse press trigger a certain midi note and send it on a specified channel via [noteout] and then have Live read that channel and trigger your samples? I'm not au fait with Live but this approach has worked just fine with Logic for me. Although I appreciate that the two programs are working with music from different angles. Good luck with your project.
