Using c74 with Max MSP

Hi,

I'm trying to build a patch that uses my iPhone to control it and I don't know what to do with the downloaded file from the c74 site in order to do this. I'm a beginner with Max so please set your answers out in simple to understand terms!
Thanks

what file....the MAX installer?......you install MAX on your computer and then you need an app for your iPhone that sends osc data to MAX....is there one called OSCillate or something.

Also if you post your patch people will be better placed to help you.

Thanks for that. I'm using the c74 app and have just installed Max 6 demo. I was told that I also have to download another zip file from c74 in order to make the iPhone talk to the computer. I've downloaded it but I don't know where to put the files. How do I post my patch? Also, it's a patch I got from someone else that I plan to build on so I don't know if there would be any violation there?

cheers

I believe the OP is talking about the c74 app for iPhone. That app doesn't seem to work anymore and I believe has been abandoned.

I've been using Lemur very successfully with Max. It's not inexpensive ($50) but it works extremely nicely.

@bkshepard I don't think c74 has been abandoned. And the app works fine here. External version 1.52 on the ipad 2.
Lemur is very cool because it works standalone. So it's kind of a different beast compared to c74, which I tend to see like a extension of Max.

I was going to say, c74 received an update just a couple of months back and I've never had any issues with it. As good as it is, I still prefer TouchOSC as a controller.

Waiting for Lemur to hopefully go on sale at some point. I know if I bought it today, it would probably go on sale tomorrow.

I don't know the functionality of c74 but I found it trivial to setup a control surface in lemur that sent OSC to Max and I found it trivial to process that data with the CNMAT library. Very sweet.
From everything I've read, lemur blows touchosc out of the water, which of course it should, given the price differential.
C74 seems to require extra stuff running on your computer.

The only problem I would see with C74 is if you need a wireless internet connection while you're using it. I've never gotten it to be reliable over wifi, so I just create a network and all is peachy.

To answer the last question by the OP:

I keep all my externals in folder called "externals" within the max6 application folder. Then everything is placed neatly in max's search path. Otherwise just put it wherever you want and add it to the search path using file preferences in the options tab.
