Using Max or Max for Live - Audio triggering Midi Sequences
Hello Max Community,
I am trying to create a patch that takes an audio input and uses the amplitude of the input to create midi CC in real time.
I am working with Electro Luminescent Wires that are mapped to midi notes and are currently controlled by midi sequences in Live. The only midi data they respond to is note off, note on and velocity.
Goals:
1. I'd like audio from a microphone input to trigger sequences to turn on and off.
2. I'd also like to have different sequences triggered by different audio amplitudes in the input. In other words the stronger the input signal, more sequences are triggered.
I would prefer to work in Ableton Live with Max, but I am ok with working only in Max if that's the only way for this to be feasible.
Also, I am completely new to Max, but very familiar with Ableton Live.
Cheers and thanks in advance,
Tobias
AFAIK you cannot do this is M4L (as you have to use either a Max Audio or Max MIDI plugin there is no way to do both) but it should be possible in Max. You could use Bonk~ or something like that. Triggering precisely from different amp levels coming into a mic will probably be pretty difficult to get right.
A bit late but I was look for something like that and I finally made 2 patches with send/receive :
- the audio one get the signal with an amplitude gate and send it to the selected channel
- the midi one receive from the selected channel and output the selected note (This one can be modified to trigger wathever you want from the live.object, like midi clip)
