Using Two Sound cards at once
Hello,
On a mac Mini (PowerPC, OSX 10.4), I'd like to run two sound cards at once for Max:
-the built-in sound card and an USB edirol UA-1EX soundcard. This is because I'd like to have 4 simultaneous output channels
Is this possible with max ?
Thanks
GP
Eh, don't think so.
you can.
you have to create Aggregate device in Audio MIDI setup application
(it is in Applications/Utilities folder).
This way, you create a virtual device which holds two or more real in/
out sound cards. When you select this device in max, you can use both
soundcards.

If you are using Tiger there is a great new feature...
Aggregate Audio Devices
This lets you combine multiple audio devices into one core audio device. Open the "Audio MIDI Setup" application then choose Open Aggregate Device Editor from the Audio menu. You then choose which devices to combine.
The only issue is that they get generic numbers for input and output so it takes a bit of experimentation to figure out which number is which input or output on which device.
It is a core audio driver so works all your apps.
I've used this with Soundflower and my MOTU ultralight to wire sounds internally as well as use the physical in and outs. Works well.
