Using umenu to select Audio files

Greetings fellow Max MSPers

I hope someone can help me out. I have made a sampler patch using the groove~ object. Everything is working fine using a buffer~ object to load in the audio files. But what i am trying to do is use a umenu object so that i can have a dropdown list of files to choose from. The files i want to use are all in aiff format and are stored in a folder which is in the same folder as the patch. I've been pulling my hair out for the last 3 hours and cant get it to work. Can anybody shed any light on how i can to do this. Please bear in mind that i am a bit of a MaxMSP novice :o))

Thank You

John

Simply replace the names in the [umenu] with the names of your files.

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Also, always remember to have the files in the same folder as your patcher.

If you want to just drag and drop single files you can also use drop file. But as laonikoss said thats the best way with unmenu.
I'm going bald (constantly tearing my hair out) as a result of Max but once you get stuck into it, it's the funnest thing ever!

OK thanks for that.... i've got that bit working... i have a dropdown with all the names of the files, that are all now in the same folder as the patch. But i cant get them to play... before i was using a message box with the replace command to open audio files into the buffer...

How does this work? how do i wire it up

Please help!!!

Thanks

John

The umenu help file is pretty good. It gives an example of autopopulating a list from a folder.

and it give another example of autopopulating a umenu by dragging a folder:

if you look at the [folder] help you can see another way to do it and also specify file types.

I have it set-up someplace that when I load the patch a umenu of audio sample is preloaded and then when you select a file it will automatically go into a buffer. If I can find that I will post it later.
