Wanted: works for solo instrument and Max/MSP/(Jitter)
I'm looking for solo, scored works for Max/MSP (with or without jitter) for performance majors to learn as part of their repertoire. Solo instrumentation: clarinet, acoustic guitar, piano, OR cello. The works must have a score or set of instructions, and the MMJ code must be documented, debugged, stable, and currently useable. Stereo, quad, or octaphonic diffusion is supported. It would be useful to hear/see a performance via YouTube, Vimeo, or other posting. If you have an interactive work meeting these requirements I would be very interested in hearing about it.

Hi Bob,
Funny meeting you here on the forums :)
I have a piano piece I could send you and might be able to finish the patch for a short clarinet piece depending on when you need it.
Is this for SUBCLASS or a different project?
This is for SUBCLASS (soon to be SUBCET -- "electroacoustic technologies"), and I'm looking for pieces for January. "Hmm..." you say! Would love to see what you've got!
If bass clarinet is an option I have a bunch of pieces in my repertoire fitting your requirements (see http://sonicspaces.eu, many are with live electronics, all but one in Max). I'd be happy to talk you through these works and show you scores. If clarinet specifically, I have a list somewhere of rep that I'd be happy to share with you. I imagine that from those I could quite easily figure out which ones have a reasonably functional Max patch.
For piano pieces I would ask Xenia Pestova and Sebastian Berweck, they can certainly point you in the direction of pieces fitting your needs. Xenia made a repertoire list some years ago which is at http://xeniapestova.com/electronicrepertoire.html
Tobias Klich won the Gaudeamus Price last year with a piece for guitar and live electronics, there is an excerpt here https://soundcloud.com/muziekweek/tobias-klich-gr-ntr-be I don't know how the electronics were done though.
Martin Matalon recently wrote a cello piece, surely in Max, video at http://youtu.be/acug6kU5zHU. Should be plenty of stable Max patches around for Advaya by Harvey I would think..
Hi Bob,
I have a piece for electric guitar and MaxMSPJitter, that would most likely be too difficult to play on acoustic (just sayin').

@MVG : Matalon's piece is for fixed sounds and cello (i've been helping a cellist play that piece). However, some other parts of his Traces series were indeed using live electronics, those before Traces VII (maybe even Traces VII).
I have done one piece for instrument and max, but it was violin...
@VICHUG : That's good to know, thanks. Can I ask how the sample triggering is done?

Thanks for all the responses -- just back from travels in the States and Canada, will follow up ASAP
@MVG : it was done using a plain sequencer :) synchronizing with the musician was possible with a pair of in-ear monitors he was wearing during the performance, in which he received a clic track read from the same sequencer, along with some supplementary clics with a different sound for some more delicate timings
hi
my "Cello_Titan" was written some 7 or 8 years ago, and was played by Ulrich Maiss. It was written for electric cello, but this makes no difference - if you want to use max & cello (in a way different that playing some prerecorded stuff and acoustic cello on top) the cello has to be amplified/electrified somehow, right?
You can see the video of the premiere here
It was written so that the cello-player would not need anyone's help for playing it (if he has and can operate a sound card and a midi-pedalboard). The patch is real-time sound transformation, plus ONE sample (the only time I guess I used a sample, but this one is supposed to be a recording of TITAN - yes the planet --technically it is the "moon" of some other planet i guess). Not sure how true it is but I liked the idea.
the patch is in max 4 (should probably work with max 5 and 6, maybe some graphic things to fix), as I remember it uses no plug-ins, and maybe a few FREE 3-rd party objects (which are given with the patch, running MaxPlay) and there is a conductor/score/explaination - which is the score. Should you be interested, please contact me.
If a solo (electric) harp is of some interest, or solo double-bass, or even solo pipe Organ (all of those with lots of MAX) - or even a one-hour long piece for Max-enhanced theremin, please ask!!!!
best
kasper
Another piece written for the inimitable Ulrich Maiss: senz'arco on <YouTube at /watch?v=CWVqNXERBMQ>. (First performances in the same concerts as Kasper's piece.)
The computer-based part was implemented as a Max/MSP standalone on Mac OS, to keep it stable across updates to OS and versions of Max. It's been a while since I've looked at the software, but it has been run up through Mountain Lion. I'll need to check that everything's still good with Mavericks, if that's critical for you.
There is a separate score with instructions, but the software also provides an on-screen score (with automatic page turns;-)
I'd be delighted to send you score and performance materials. Uli said at the time that this was one of the most demanding pieces he had programmed (in terms of playing the instrument), so your 'cellist will have some work to get his or her teeth into.
Re: cello and electronics, check with Ulrich Maiss; he specializes in that area.
