WAVES PLUGINS: AUTOMATIC LOADING

gustavodelgado's icon

Hi.

I would like to know if it is possible to load automatically, when I open a
patch, (may using a path as with the other kind of VST plugins) a WAVES
plugins without manually loading the SHELL as first.
I mean, the shell should be load as an attribuite of vst object, but how to
load or parse the .dll after that?

Any advise?

Gustavo.

Why did you put your topic in caps is all I care about... do you think your topic is more important than everyone elses?

uau!
What an egocentric answer Mr replier Aldridge.!!!
Please dont' make me spend my time in answering this kind of things...
If you don't like capital letters in the subjects, perhaps you could try to
change the rules of this forum, or better you could try to change your
ego-punisher-manners.
The next time we could try to talk about Max topics... COULD WE?

Caps = Shouting

No shouting here. Noisy music, quiet people.

No, for what i know, there's no way to load the wanted wave plugin
instead of their fucking shell. This is the worst idea ever from a
company that sells 7 000$ plugins, even if they're one of the best on earth.

but maybe you can first load the shell, then the plug/program

that's how i do with all the NI plugs (reaktor & guitarRig) - with a
read message

I don't really think I'm being egocentric.... well... You're new here. I don't like when people put caps in their titles. Anyone else care to comment? I don't think I'll get too far explaining this one as I'm already blacklisted as an egocentric.

thats impossible, nbecause you can not talk to the waveshell
VST plug-in other than through [vst~], and the waves dialog
is nothing you would find in a plug-in spec, its a dialog
called from the operating system and a user action. :)

not sure how it is saved in other programs - i suppose that
waveshell has a type 5 preset parameter in it, which then
depends on the wavesshell "where is your waves folder" preset
in addition. so forget that with MAX.

the minimum requirement of preleoding waves plug-in would be
preloading plug-ins in general i guess, and we can not preload
VST plug-ins in [vst~] either. - well, we coould do it once,
for one instance, in a default location, but that is not the
same thing what nuendo does.

hi

you're most certainly right, and i don't have Waves (nor cubase)

it's just than it took me years to find a solution to a problem which
"feels" similar with NI, reaktor or guitar Rig

and the solution was easy

and load (or init) i send a message [plug "guitarRig 2. vst"] (it
loads the "shell") and then a little later a message [read
myHD/.../.../.../myfolder/mypresetforthisshellandthispatch] (of
course i saved this preset before with [write
myHD/.../.../.../myfolder/mypresetforthisshellandthispatch] - it is
then saved as (apparently vst) effx preset files..

I just thought i _could_work with waves... maybe not.
but works with other vst-shells i know (NI)

Hi Kasper

I tried your method and i works great for waves plugins too. Weird but true.

Did't solve MY problem though. hehe. I can only get it to _not_ pop up on load. I would like to be able to select fx. Q6 from a dropdown menu and have it load directly. Any more great ideas???

well cubase, nuendo, and logic can do this. they do it in
different ways even, in steinberg apps it only works when "preload" is turned on.

now how could one make it work with [vst~]?
i can only guess: rewrite the vst~ object to support it.
the routine of loading a file from the waves folder
could be done with apple events ... but what if the
waves prefs are not yet set ? :) ...

i find it a pretty good idea for a company which
makes 50 different products for 8 platforms to use
a shell, because it reduces the work for compatibility
upgrades when a host program chnages or a new one comes
out.

it is just bad luck if someones main host is MAXMSP. :)

euh

sorry i don't remember what was my great idea (or method) but then i
really trust i had a great idea (;-))

I bet it is loading the preset through max (with read message)
-that's the way i work with NI plugs.

So not surre what i said, but calling a plug-in (setup) with the
"read" message is the only way i found

not sure how it applies to waves as i only had an "experimental"
version of waves, years ago, in os9.

Hi-
Just wondering if anyone has come up with a reasonable solution to this issue of automatically loading the Waves shell, the specific plugin you want and then the preset for that plugin. Right now I have to do all this manually which is tedious, to say the least.
I have tried the methods suggested in this post, but have not had any luck. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong (quite likely!)
Anyone have any code examples of this working properly? Or other methods to try?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Halsey,

I am also intersting in this issue.
Can you load ("plug") the Waveshell in a vst-object successfully ? I
always get an error (on OS X, MaxMSP 4.6.3/5.0.4) and never get it to
work:

"WaveShell-VST is not compatible with current application.
WaveShell-VST and the Waves PlugIns can only run in applications that
support VST shell PlugIns (kPlugCategShell)"

I can run Waves plugins using vst~ without a problem. My problem is that I can't get anything other than the Waves shell to load automatically.
I'm not sure what your error message indicates, as you definitely should be able to run the waves shell with vst~. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

I have no problem getting the Waves shell to load using vst~. My problem is that I can't get the particular Waves plugin I want to use to load automatically. Every time I open the patch, I need to select the plugin and preset for that plugin manually which is frustrating.
I'm not sure what those errors are all about, but you definitely should be able to load the shell using vst~...sorry I'm not more helpful.

i cant get a waves plugin loaded

On OS X and MaxMSP v5.0.6 (see the update news) you can load the Wave VST shell into the vst-object, but you have to load the presets manually.

Hi :) im on max msp5 windows xp

i have these in my C:Program FilesSteinbergVstplugins folder :

WaveShell-DX 5.7.d
WaveShell-VST 5.0.d
WaveShell-VST 5.2.dll
WaveShell-VST 5.7.dllll
WaveShell-VST 5.5.dllll

all my waves plugins are located at :

C:Program FilesWavesPlug-Ins

when i make a new object (vst~ 'WaveShell-VST 5.7') and use the vst help file to make the plugin ( like in the patch below.)when i try to load the C1 waves plugin (using the plug button) from the waves plugin folder i get this message from msp:

"This application has failed to start because the waves5.0.DLL was not found."

do i have to install waves into msp somehow?

thank for any help :)

normally we should point you to the waves manual with this.

but i (have to) use different waveshells too, and
want to remind you that when you use different ones,
they might make trouble remebering the path to the
waves plug-in folder.
this will prevent you from loadbanging stuff in max
automatically (as well as remebering the plug-in
in nuendo or PT; they would also ask you for the path
before they continue loading).

rob beattie's icon

getting the same issues, and would love to get all waves plugins from from a vst [object], but, the https://www.waves.com/plugins/studiorack - max seems to find it, and then load into the studio rack from max in the same way
