Where are my Max For Live devices???
Hi everyone,
I just installed the 30-day M4L demo. So this is probably a stuped newbie question... But - nonetheless - can anybody tell me where I can find my Max For Live devices? They should be there under Audio Effects, right? In a folder just under my Looper plugin?
Both Max 5 and Max 6 are installed on my machine, could that be a problem? Ableton links to version 5, but since cycling74 offers a demo on Max 6 I figured I might as well try both the standalone Max 6 and the Max For Live 5 out... But maybe they might be in conflict with each other somehow?
Cheers

I'd start by simply searching for the .amxd devices that reside on your computer.
And no, max5 and 6 shouldn't be in conflict at all.
@Wetterberg - There is only one such device, PitchDrop.amxd, which I downloaded to try if it would be possible to manually install plugins. Which wasn't the case, Live doesn't allow me to install any .amxd devices...
You went to the File Folder tab in the prefs of Live in order to point it to the Max application folder? Typically, the first time you do that, Live starts installing all kinds of stuff. Did that happen?
When you talk about the 'standalone Max 6', do you mean the runtime version? You might have to install the full package.
Thomas Tempelmanns "Find Any File" is the number one indispensable tool. Its the Google of the Mac...
Spotlight sucks big time, I even don't touch it ever anymore, it fails especially with finding Max or Live files (anything that doesn't save into your home folder is likely to be missed by spotlight...)

@jvkr - I'm not sure I understand what you mean... The only appropriate box in the pref/File Folder tab I can find is the VST Plugin Custom Folder. Should I point this to the Max folder?
I have the full package installed. There is a folder called m4l-patches inside applications/Max5/patches, with a bunch of .maxpat-files. Live just doesn't find them I guess?
@stefantiedje - Thanks for the link. Do you think I can use this app somehow to solve this problem? I agree with Spotlight - for me it seems really random, which days Spotlight wants to find files and which days it's just grumpy and quiet...
Thanks!
Got it all sorted out now -
I found a page on the Ableton site:
This is taken from that page:
Make sure the Max installation is up to date.
Install the MaxForLiveContent.alp from
OS X: Applications/Max5/support/LivePacks
Win: Max5/support/LivePacks/MaxForLiveContent.alp
And in the process also updated to Live 8.2.7. Might have been that part that did the trick also...
Thanks anyway for your input!
