Where to start?

Hi,
I'm very new to Max MSP - and I'm confused as to where to start. Is there a collection of tutorials somewhere that I can work through, in order to familiarize mysefl? On the site it seems like there are a lot of videos of people doing very advanced things - which is great - but I'm not seeing any intro-level documentation / help. Any ideas / suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi RS, and welcome to Max and the forum. Look for "Reference" under the Help menu. Then click the little house icon in the upper-left corner to take you to the Home page if you're not already there. You will see tutorials listed for Max, MSP, and Jitter. I strongly encourage you to start with the Max tutorials as they deal with a lot of the functionality of the program. When you open one of the tutorials, note the green button in the upper-right of the window. That opens an actual Max patch for that tutorial. Good luck!

open the app, got to the Help menu and select "Reference"

in the window that opens you should see some sections labeled Max, MSP and Jitter. click the Tutorials link in the Max section (if you don't see this, click the home icon in the top-left corner of the window).

additionally, also in the Help menu, click "Max Tour". this walk you through the application and interface. at the end you will be prompted to open up the built-in lessons, which will continue walking you through the functionality.

you can start the lessons yourself simply by creating a new patcher window (File -> New Patcher), and if you hover your mouse over the icons in the right side bar of the patcher window, the second from the bottom is the lessons browser.

Hi RS,

In addition to what has already been mentioned, I recommend that you sign up for the free Programming MAX course currently running on Kadenze. It consists of a series of videos that that teach MAX from the ground up. The tutor has a great delivery style and makes everything crystal clear.

It's over half way through now but you can still access the previous sessions.

Cheers

Paul
