whispering vocal transformation

    Hi all,
I`d like to create a patch that generates a whispering-like feedback to audio input. Whispering meaning : having somebody talking into a microphone and a patch that transforms it into a whisper. Anybody any ideas on this?

That is a requirement that is simple to describe, but extraordinarily difficult to accomplish. A whisper contains radically different harmonics to the spoken word.
I don't know of any way to do this, but you could experiment with vocoding a sample of an exhalation, combined with some EQ.
I would be surprised if you get a result that you are happy with though, using any technology at all (not just Max.)

      Here is an idea...
Try taking the original speech and using it as an amplitude envelope to gate a white noise signal. Then mix in a highpass filtered version of the speech into the gated white noise.
If that sounds good, then try using tuned white noise that matches the pitch of the original speech.

i guess splitting the audio into impulses and resonants will come quite close.
try programs like SPEAR, or, if you have a PPC mac, MARCOHACK (runs in classic),. thy do this kind of thing.
i often use spear to "split" audio that way into 2 parts, in order to blend or porcess the two files elsewhere.

Thanks all! I'll give it a try and post the results...
