Why I need authorize max every time I open it?
Just the topic says : every time I open Max, I am requested to authorize Max. Is there a way to stop this behavior after authorizing just once?
All the best
José Manuel
Dear José Manuel,
That should only happen if you authorize with iLok. An authorization with a permanent license should not be necessary to repeat. You could try to delete preferences folders and clean reinstall Max. If that does not happen, i'd say it's a question for support. Are you on Max 7 and did you authorize for a demo account? That might have expired...
Best Jan,
PS. Thanks a lot for wonderful concerts @ Festival Zeppelin - it was a pleasure!
Dear Jan
Thank you for your feelings about Zeppelin. You are very welcome! Unfortunately, I couldn't assist this time. And thank you so much for trying to help me.
Perchaps I could have started with a reference to my setup. Nevertheless, I was interested in knowing more about similar behaviors. My system is 2008 and 2011 Mac Book Pro. 3.0 and 2.4 GHz. 8 GByte RAM, no iLock at all. This happens only in Max 7 in both computers. I have permanent licenses for versions 7. 6. 5. 4. and 3. family. I started programming in Max 0.26 version in NeXT/IRCAM workstations and never have used demo authorizations in any computer. Erasing preferences is indeed the first thing to do, but it does not seem working in my case..
Perhaps this behavior has something to do with the fact I use two computers (not at the same time)
All the best
José Manuel
Hola José Manuel,
With the Max 7 license you should be able to use 3 different computers. One thing that come to my mind is that Max 7 need to "call home" - meaning to connect to the auth-server on startup - once in a while in order to stay activated. Still this should only happen every 120 or so days. In between there is no internet connection necessary.
Is there a possibility that you have a firewall or some other software that might block Max from calling home and/or could get into conflict with that .... ?
Best Jan
Hi, Jan
No. There is not any firewall here.
Best wishes
JM
I also have a similar problem.
It's not each time I start Max but I regularly have re-authorize Max. Mostly after the computer has been shut down.
It ok for now but soon this computer will be in a place without internet and it might become a problem.
Thank you, Yoan
My problems started arising as you explain. Now they happen to bore me even having authorized the application in the same session...
When there is not internet, it becomes a serious problem, indeed
All the best
José Manuel
Anyone still questioning whether it makes sense to go on stage with Max 7? Cycling HAS to fix this.
Sorry for the trouble, José and Yoann. The authorization is dependent on the type of license you have.
Please look over the FAQ here:
https://cycling74.com/support/faq_authorization/
- If a full license, the computer stays authorized for 180 days without an internet connection.
- If a subscription, the computer stays authorized for up to 30 days without an internet connection.

I have a full permanent license and that :
"
I have a full license of Max 7, but my computer isn’t always connected to the internet. Will Max 7 still run?
Yes, it will run offline for up to 180 days before you need to connect to the internet again. Max will prompt you when you get close to that time to reconnect to our authorization server.
doesn't happen . I will contact the support team then.
José Manuel
In most cases the reason why you need to authorize every time you start Max is because you have logged in to Max on more than 3 machines.
We allow 3 authorised machines, and when you log in on a machine it will stay in your account for 6 months - that's the 180 days offline thing.
We have no way of deauthorizing a machine once it has been authorised in this way.
Once you start logging in on a 4th machine, we allow it, and you can use Max for as long as you like, but once you quit Max, that machine will only stay in your account for 1 hour.
We understand that users would like to have a much better idea of which machines are currently authorised, and are looking at ways to present this information. If you are banging your head on the 4th machine login, please write to us in support and we can remove machines from your account.
BTW, if you have your Max 7 auth on ilok, we also allow this 1 hour temp login in case of emergencies.
Cheers
Well...yes, but is the same computer with a different system considered as a different machine ?
I think it's my problem and I really want to fix it because I don't want to have (to have) an internet connection to use max...
This Israel exactly my case!
This is exactly my case : three systems , two computers... But not four at all.
@JOSÉ
In fact you were signed in on 4 - I have removed the one you seem to no longer use. If others have this problem please contact support
Cheers
Thank you Andrew! I had forgotten that fourth machine. Yes. You are right : I authorized one for an installation some months ago.
Gratefully, all the best
Joaé Manuel
Having the same problem here (I think). Can someone check on my old machines? I've emailed support but haven't heard back.
I have the same problem with my new MacBook. How can I check if I forgot to exit my account on some machine? It could be really great if we have such list of all authorized machines and option to un-authorize all at the profile.

Also an issue for me!
It is overwhelmingly likely that this problem has to do with having more than three installations of Max/MSP. We allow up to 3 activations at once as long as only one machine is being actively used for editing patches at any given time. A 4th activation works on a single session basis on any machine.
Got it. I had to hand back my work machine(s) recently, formatted. Anyway to reset this for new installs?
If you don't have access to the machines you were authorized on so that you can de-authorize them, then the best idea is to email customer support. Make sure you provide them with the name and email you used to set up your account; it makes things quicker.
Yep! No longer have access to them but they should no longer be in use! I'll do that, Max. Many thanks.
