Why won't Max allow me to edit a patcher?

Hi, i am having an issue where Max sometimes won't let me edit a patch. Could you please help?

In the picture below, both Edit and Freeze are greyed out and the keyboard shortcuts for them don't do anything. I've tried going into patcher mode or presentation mode and its not working either way. It has happened for me many times since i start using Max. It usually fixes if i close the patch and re-open it from Live or quit Max and Live altogether, but it usually confuses me for a while before i think to do that and i'm not sure if that always works. Why is this is happening and is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

is that a patch you bought? then it might be locked.
i don`t know exactly how it`s done, but for a simple patch like that it`s pretty easy with a text editor to grab just the patch without that "locking code".
just have a look at that compressed code from patches posted everywhere here in the forum.
pay most attention to the beginning and the end of that code and compare it to the patch you want to open

Thanks. It's not a patch i bought, was downloaded free here : http://maxforlive.com/library/device/2342/live-mixer-for-mira

I don't think its something intentionally created with this patch because it works totally fine sometimes, just not some other times

If you instantiated the bpatcher (or poly~ subpath) and then double click on it to open it, it will not let you edit it by default. since it is a patcher (i.e. separate file on disk) it could be used many times in a patch (or other open patches). This means that you might destroy functionality across your patch. Also what happens to the other instances if you are making a change but forget to safe it?

So this is expected behaviour that's supposed to protect you from headaches. you can work around that if you are sure you know what you are doing by pressing [command+option+m] (don't know what the windows shortcut is). Now you can edit as usual. But be aware of the trouble you can get yourself into!!!
