wii sensor bar
Hi esteemed list,
I am having difficulty using my wii sensor bar for IR tracking. I have a wii remote and I'm using aka.wiiremote. Unfortunately, every time I turn on my wii to light up the sensor bar, I lose the bluetooth connection between my computer and my wii remote. I can get crude IR tracking with a couple IR LEDs, so I know the software and my wii remote are working. But I'd really like to utilize the IR LED arrays within the wii sensor bar.
Does anyone know of a way to power up the sensor bar w/o powering up the wii console and its bluetooth connection? How does one use a wii sensor bar for IR tracking in Max?
Thanks so much!
The sensor bar has no sensors, it's just an infrared light array. Try looking at it through a DV cam in night mode (infrared), you can see the LEDs then. A workaround would be to use any infrared LEDs and make your own, or they sell the sensor bars that are standalone (I have one that runs on batteries and doesn't connect to anything). Another way I've seen on youtube is to use two candles, one on each side of the screen, they act as infrared light sources for the Wii control. That way you're not limited by size either.
Have fun!
Thanks so much for your reply. Could you perhaps direct me to a site that sells the standalone sensor bars? I've ordered some IR LEDs as a backup, but I don't think I'll have time to put together a little array. And yes, I agree that the term "sensor bar" is highly misleading.

I have been happy with the Nyko brand: http://tinyurl.com/3g8z6d
That's the same exact one I have. works great for me. I would try candles or even just LED's attached to a 9 volt though some resistors and some double sided tape if I was projecting a large image.
