Windows 7 RC & Max/MSP/Jitter 5.0.7

Hi Maxers!

I'm here to tell about Windows 7 RC and Max 5.

Past night i've installed the new Windows 7 RC. It's an evaluation copy that will work about 1 year!

I'm testing W7 on my laptop: ASUS F3SC (Intel T7300, 1GB Ram, nVidia GeForce 8400m g)

After intalling the OS I downloaded the Max 5.0.7 and run the application. No problems during the install! The thing was... it's very fast! That thing at first Max run that check some thing, that take on Vista about a minute, it was no longer then 15 seconds! Starting Max it's also faster. It load it self faster and the paches too!
But that doesn't mean nothing. The most important thing was the cpu usage. I was getting an zero on a heavy patch that uses more than that on other OS. Jitter also works better.

My fear was my external audio card (Motu 896 Original). The motu drivers are not so good as i would like, but it works very well! No problems installing and no problems with Max to detect the audio card and work with it.

If you have an laptop only for max, as I have, it's a good thing to upgrade.
I work alot on my desktop to create patches, but to live usage i prefer the comodity of an laptop, and with this OS I know that i can get more from Max and the patches whitout worry about the system stability.

This was only my first impression, and if you try it too, share your experience here, as I will do if I discover anything good or bad!

Cycling guys! The Max work lots better in this OS. Try to keep up with the upgrade!

Sorry my bad English.

Well that's good to know, Vista had me worried there for a bit.

Yep, good to know. Thanks for sharing. I'll go xp --> win 7 as soon as it will be released, then.

Very glad to hear that you have had good experiences with Windows 7 and Max/MSP.

I would just add that we have found audio drivers very lacking for the x64 version of Windows 7. So, for now at least, we'd recommend sticking with the 32 bit version.

Yes! I'm using the 32bit and I've never tested my drivers in 64bit.

But good or bad could depend on the manufacture, and the OS too, because same drivers work much better on W7 that in Vista! I don't know why!

A friend of mine has an AMD 64 and will test W7 64. I think that I will try my card there to see if it's ok!

But, what i would like to see is the capacity of Max64

Hi

So far so good!

I'm using Max5 in Windows 7 RC for the last 15 days and it's working very good.
Some external objects are working too and it deals with hardware with no problem.

I don't know if someone has tried also, but it's a good system.

Never go back to Vista, that's for sure.
