Wireless MIDI remote control?
I am trying to find a handheld remote control that sends MIDI to use with Max/MSP. I've tried searching online and to my amazement I can't find anything. I just need something like a TV remote, with a handful of buttons to start and stop patches. It must be wireless since I will not be within reach of my computer. Thanks in advance.
I would look into TouchOSC (and basically OSC-based communication). It runs on your iOS device and Max can then easily read OSC commands via its udp receive object. You can see a video with some of that here:
Good luck!
Hi HZ37, the problem is I don't have an iOS device. Also I prefer real buttons for feel.
But you do have an Android device, then?
It also depends on the amount of time and energy you are willing to invest. These days you can hack together a wireless monome or something similar:
But it's probably cheaper and faster to get yourself an old iPhone/iPad/Android device and put an OSC app on it. Good luck!
The app 'GyrOSC' also works for iOS devices and is free but again doesn't have the tangible keys... Although if you were to find a device that had buttons on it and could connect to your computer it is very simple to set up each button to trigger individual out puts. The next step would be to either connect the buttons through wifi or bluetooth to the computer. If you want to get more hand-on, you should check out the site http://www.adafruit.com to build your own device.
Yeah, I need tangible buttons. I will check out that link Tobin!
lol, there is a much simpler solution. Use a wireless usb connector on a standard midi controller. here is one for seven dollars
@Ernest Won't that make my midi controller have wi-fi internet access...? Which won't help me here?
Wii remote with osculator installed on your computer will do the job
