Zoom audio overrides the audio output of the max file
I'm using the program for a class. The class is online, so we are all on Zoom.
For some reason, when I'm on Zoom, the audio output of whatever max file goes completely silent. As soon as I quit Zoom, the audio comes back.
I don't have any issue with using Max and other audio programs like Spotify or YouTube at the same time, but it's only zoom that overrides the max.
What should I do?
if you start sharing your screen, activate "share computer sound". after that your os will switch to a new audio driver ("zoomAudioDevice") automatically. over in max, you have to manually select this new zoom-driver as you output device in audio-status. then you are ready to go.
but what if I'm not sharing my screen? What I'm having trouble with is when the teacher gives us few minutes to work on a problem. I'm not sharing anything, but the zoom class is still going on, and we have to work on our own. Even then, I can't get any sound out of max.
Are you using bluetooth headphones?
yes
When I am using bluetooth headphones I find that Zoom sets the sampling rate to 16kHz. I don’t think Max can work at that sampling rate so it causes audio problems. I then either need to change the zoom audio settings to use the computer speakers and mic or need to keep
them as is and set those as the inputs and outputs in Max. You could see if when not using bluetooth headphones if you have the same problem.
You have to "Share" from Zoom to share the audio.
If you want to share just the audio, no video, there is an option for that (maybe Advanced... something like that when you first click "Share...")
@jean-francois charles, it's not about sharing. I simply can't get the sound out when I'm using zoom, regardless of sharing the screen or not. Even when I'm doing it on the side while the zoom class is happening, I can't get the sound out
@testcase, you are right. max works fine when I don't use the bluetooth headphone. Any solution to that, besides using wired earbuds?
I use something called loopback audio to deal with routing of different audio signals because I find it helpful for teaching and that helps but is a commercial product. It seems to matter the order that things happen. Max can output at 16kHz but that seems to get messed up when Max is already setup to use input/output from the Bluetooth headphones and then I start a call on zoom. Things get either play at wrong sampling rate or I have other problems. Does it make a difference if you have the input in Max set to None or the laptop Microphone?
no it didn't make any difference. I think I'll just stick with wired earbuds with microphone. It's not a big deal. I can't use computer speaker/mic due to the circumstances, but the earbuds should be good enough. Thanks, anyway!
