[BEAP] Audio to CV? Control the output volume of a sampler using a VCA triggered by another sampler.

Hey everyone,

I'm an absolute beginner in Max but I've been trying to use it to demonstrate a fairly simple concept for an outdoors sound installation.

Overall, I'm trying to demonstrate the effect of an ambient microphone bringing down the overall volume of a sound installation when triggered by an increase in ambience volume. Specifically, I want the piece to come down as heavy traffic passes by as the site is located next to a busy road and a train station.

I've attempted to achieve this using BEAP modules, connecting a sampler to a VCA (loaded with a sample of the audio piece) and using another sampler (loaded with a recording of the train passing by) connected to an envelope follower to control the VCA. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any audio output from the VCA.

I'm trying to get this done with BEAP to keep it simple and easier to understand (at least visually) for those attending the presentation. Can I achieve this using the default modules or will I have to dig deeper?

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong here? Picture attached below.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and apologies for the silly questions!

Something else I forgot to add:

I tried using the xfade module instead of the VCA, but I still couldn't get the signal coming out of the envelope follower to work as a CV signal.

Why don't you simply use adc~, meter~ and Volume control ?
that beap stuff is on the top of the to delete list
in my max installation.
