6 speakers position setting for ICST Ambisonics sound with horizontal and vertical

I'm making a sound art installation in which I want to use 6 speakers for a spatial sound with horizontal and vertical. Audiences will mainly stand in the center of this space to experience. I want to know what is the best way to set the speakers' position.

my real-world speaker position setting

When I use the default 8 speakers position setting, I move the sound source horizontally in the space, the spatial effect is really obvious (for example, echos). Although the speakers' position setting is different from my real-world setting. (There're 8 channel on the interface, although I only have 6 speakers)

default speaker setting

When I set the speakers' position the same with the real-world setting, instead, the spatial sound effect is not so obvious. (There're only 6 speakers channel, the same with the real speaker amount)

my speaker setting

I want to know why. Many thanks for anyone who can answer this question.

Check on the web, but i think it's not possible to have so few speakers for 3D ambisonics.
instalation i saw, use 8 speakers (minimum) in a cube configuration. 4 on the ground, 4 up

What kind of speakers do you use?

I used steinberg UR28M audio interface and six edifier speakers. Actually, I don't need a real 3D ambisonics, I mainly need a horizontal ambisoncis and just a single direction vertical sound.
