I'm getting this error with my gen~ patch. Any clue about how to debug/attempt resolution would be much appreciated.

I did make a change - I added a gen subpatch taken from GSOT Ch 9 (wavetable_sincmipmap_sample.max.pat). But I've used this exact gen subpatch before with no issues.

I found the problem. The gen~ patch was missing the declaration of a 2ndary buffer. Once it was added genpatcher compile errors went away.

It would be great to have better error messages coming out of gen.
