Animating Still Images
I’m very interested in the possibility of doing real-time still image processing to create motion or extra interest.
There are many projects in After Effects like this

They look to create masks and then do shader type displacement or something I don’t yet know about on that layer. The feathers infini growing on the parrot is very impressive.
The work of Steven Haman looks like a simpler task involving preparing transparencies cut out from visionary art, yet the motions of the open gl planes looks quite complex and I haven‘t found a shader or what naught that would allow a few textures to be input and move them around on geometries like this.

We see mirroring, ripple effects, rotations with feedback delays - all on the same input still image artwork. I can imagine a some setup where a shader or patch takes a texture or 2 , probably og image and some subset of it cut out with transparent background.
Has anyone experimented with this type of adding animation to still images ?
Thanks !
jitter doesnt differ from AE here; you can use various image types the same way you can use video clips, gl content or whatever comes in the form of a matrix or can be converted to one.
Hi Roman, thanks for the response. Yes I am aware of that. The effect of the parrot‘s feather infinitely growing or other motions is beyond the scope of using matrices as textures mapped to gl planes or shapes though. The “scenes” in Steven Haman’s videos are possibly some shader he found (he said as much when I questioned him about the motions at a show). This would be more or a drop in solution which is also fine as the fluid movements seem like they would be very difficult or unintuitive to create with stacks of oscillators tied to position and rotation.
working with pathing and masking is for sure easier in PS/AE.
:/
but you could prepare your still images likewise with PS, before using them in jitter.
So I don't want to let this thread die on that. Is there anyone in the Jitter community who has done still image animation / motions?
