Beginners Help
Hi,
I posted on a previous thread asking for help with the 'coll' object......thanks for the example patch. How do input a melody though? I am so sorry for all the questions.....I am really struggling to get to grips with this and I am trying to create a patch for young children. I want it to play a simple melody with a short drum rhythm to accompany it.
press the keys on object that looks like a keyboard.
once you have got to grips with this we can move on to the next stage
Ha...yeah I get that you have to use the keyboard, but how do you store the info? I have seen the sample patch you sent on the previous thread, but I cannot work out how it is stored.
I really appreciate any help, and I am so sorry to be such a pain...

Ive added a write and read to the [coll] thats how you can save the stored info to a document if thats what you mean?
Hi,
All I wan to do is play a simple melody like....say 'doe a deer' and have an on/off switch so it plays with a drum accompaniment.

Can I ask why you have chosen to use Max to do this? You could achieve your goal much easier in a program such as Ableton Live or Logic etc. How long have you been using Max as i guessed from you wanting to use a [coll] you had quite a bit of knowledge. The thing with writing a melody into [coll] you need to tell [coll] when to play and rest, this can be achieved using a [multislider]. but by the time all of these things are put into place including save and load automations (if thats what you are looking for) you have quite an advanced patch, even though its only playing nursery rhymes. Then once the patch is built you then have the job of inputting all of the different nursery rhymes. However in Live or Logic you could probably download the midi files for these nursery rhymes for free online.
do you have a midi keyboard?
Hi,
I have to use MAX as that is what the school want me to use. I could possibly use a MIDI keyboard. I feel like I am trying to create something so simple, but it's obviously going to cause me a lot of work. It's also hard to put into words exactly what I want.
Are you in the UK?
K
Do you have to use coll?
Here you go
This one is better
actually that didn't work right either ill do some more to it and resend
Right I finally have it sorted. it took a while
Hi,
Thanks for all your help with this. Just a few questions.
When the 'play' button is pressed do the files have to be selected every time when in presentation mode, or do I just record the melody and store it?
As I say, i am a complete beginner with MAX and your help is just fantastic. I cannot thank you enough.
I have started to put objects into my patch now. This is what i am doing:
*Simple synth (with stored melody using coll if possible)
*Adding a slight reverb/delay on to the synth using live dial.
*Snare drum and also kick drum beat.
If the creating of the melody using coll becomes too complex, would a stored sample track be possible to store into MAX?

The patch stores the [coll] data, into the folder you chose. When on saving into the [preset] it stores the drum pattern and location of the [coll] file. Once you have numerous songs saved into the [preset] all their data is retrieved by clicking that preset. You must play the melody in time with the drums when inputting as it is a time based patch. As for a sample track look at the [sfplay] object. If you right on objects you will get a list, click on that objects help file, and you will see how these objects are used.
(right "click" on object)
